I've been a mobile locksmith for most of 10 years. I have worked for and alongside all aspects of the locksmith industry. Locks is a critical trade often under-represented in the trade community and the people at large. But what is a locksmith, and why is it important to know? As a locksmith I talked to quite frankly, "a sacramento locksmith works with locks." The essentialism is true, but fails to engage with the dynamic variation in the industry. Locks made specific knowledge and skills are intended to maintain access control. Access control ensures that those who have access to a specific area or building is permitted, while those who do not have access to a building is denied. Access control is everywhere - whether it locks on your house or shop, your car, parkade and gated community. Many locksmiths, I sat down with was either the owner and operator of his own company, or they owned a locksmith business as they are sent mobile technologies. Locksmith technicians work in many forms and often take on a specialized roles in the industry.
Automotive technicians specialize in automobile locks. For vehicle lock every year, make and model have different internal mechanisms, unique and specific electronic and mechanical hardware. Thus, automotive locksmithing has a steep learning curb and requires a large base of specialized tools and knowledge. This work comprises mainly open locked cars, cut specailized keys, and sometimes tear out control coloumbs, door panels and reporgraming onboard computers. Most often, however, automotive technicians open locked vehicle doors. Automotive engineers mediate often resellers and client to provide automotive services at a better price and more reliable techniques
